The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia deeply regrets to announce the untimely passing of Oleg Ilych Botsiev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of South Ossetia to the Republic of Abkhazia.
Oleg Ilych Botsiev was born on 26 March 1954 in Tkvarchal, Abkhaz ASSR. In 1976 he graduated from Kharkov State University. He worked in various positions in the Republic of Abkhazia, defending the freedom and independence of Apsny side by side with his Abkhaz brothers during the most difficult periods.
Since 2007, he served as Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of the Republic of South Ossetia in the Republic of Abkhazia. On 15 April 2013 he was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of South Ossetia to the Republic of Abkhazia.
Oleg Botsiev has always been distinguished by his boundless devotion to the interests of the state, his responsible approach to solving tasks and his remarkable professional and personal qualities, which ensured the fruitful work of the South Ossetian Embassy in Abkhazia for many years.
Oleg Botsiev was honoured with state awards of the Republic of South Ossetia, the Republic of Abkhazia and the Russian Federation.
In 2024 for his significant contribution to the implementation of foreign policy of the Republic of South Ossetia and the strengthening of South Ossetian-Abkhazian relations, as well as in connection with his anniversary, Oleg Ilytch Botsiev was awarded the Order of Honour.
