The twenty-first anniversary of the terrorist attack in Beslan

МИД Южной Осетии

From September 1 to 3, commemorative events are being held in Ossetia to mark the 21st anniversary of the horrific terrorist attack in Beslan.

Twenty-one years ago, the bright celebration of Knowledge Day forever transformed into a time of unending pain for all of Ossetia and the Ossetian people. On September 1, 2004, during a festive assembly at a school in Beslan, terrorists took students, their parents and teachers hostage. For three long days, the criminals held 1,128 hostages in inhumane conditions within the school's walls. The particular tragedy of this attack lies in the fact that the majority of the victims were children and women.

This tragedy, which claimed the lives of more than three hundred individuals, became one of the deadliest and most brutal terrorist acts of the 21st century, sending shockwaves throughout the entire world.

Despite the years that have passed, the pain remains. Beslan has left an indelible wound in the hearts of the Ossetian people.

In these days of remembrance, we pay tribute and respect to all those who lost their lives at the hands of terrorists, to the heroes who sacrificed their own lives to save the hostages, and we express our profound gratitude to all those who courageously risked their lives for the sake of others.
