Statements of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen about the strong support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia are inappropriate and sound populist.
Head of the organization, which has been a participant of the Discussions on Security in Transcaucasia since October 2008, the organization, which earlier mediated the settlement of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict, leaving after that an ambiguous taste because of its often unconstructive approaches, could have been more diplomatic, at least on the eve of the next round of the Discussions.
As for the EUMM, it should be noted that their “excellent work” often leads to violations of the state border of South Ossetia, which is absolutely inadmissible, since it does not contribute to confidence-building measures and is a destabilizing factor.
It is regrettable that representatives of the once reputable organization, instead of recognizing the reality and the fact of the existence of the Republic of South Ossetia, year after year have been voicing phrases from the training manual that they themselves do not really believe in. The decisions taken by the Russian leadership after forcing the aggressor to peace in August 2008 are not subject to change. This has been repeatedly emphasized by the Russian party. The bilateral relations between South Ossetia and Russia have a firm contractual basis in line with the norms of international legislation, including, among others, the issues of the presence of the Russian military contingent on the territory of the Republic.
We call on the OSCE and other international organizations not to engage in “shouting over the fence”, but in a substantive discussion of relevant regional issues, and, first of all, issues of security guarantees for South Ossetia and Abkhazia from Georgia.
